Lisbon, Jan. 28, 2026 (Lusa) - Powerdot invested €74 million in 2025 in the largest ever expansion of its European network, including €19 million in Portugal, the Portuguese operator of electric vehicle charging stations in commercial spaces announced on Wednesday.
After installing more than 2,500 new charging points during the year, the company ended 2025 with around 11,500 points in more than 2,250 locations in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Poland.
The expansion carried out over the past year focused on so-called “destination charging”, i.e. charging in places where people live, work, shop and travel.
In Portugal, where it has a local team of 110 employees, Powerdot ended last year with around 550 active locations and more than 2,000 charging points, having added more than 40 new locations and around 350 additional points throughout the year, representing an investment of €19 million.
"Despite rapid growth, the network maintained solid and reliable performance, with nearly 100% uptime across the entire portfolio," the company points out.
Quoted in the press release, Powerdot co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Luís Santiago Pinto points out that in 2025 the company "consolidated its position as a trusted partner to more than 650 entities across Europe, including large retail groups, commercial real estate operators and transport companies".
"Many of these partnerships have been deepened throughout the year, with the installation of additional points in existing locations, keeping pace with growing demand and improving usage levels," he emphasised.
Noting that "usage data confirms the acceleration of electric vehicle adoption," Powerdot details that since 2023, its network has tripled in size, while the energy delivered has increased fivefold.
"On average, each charging session lasts 44 minutes, which is in line with typical dwell times in retail environments, reinforcing the relevance of the “destination charging” concept," it notes.
During the summer, the energy delivered grew 61% year-on-year, "driven by peaks in mobility, commercial activity and daily use of the network," with Powerdot recording new all-time highs at the end of the year, with annual growth of 118% in energy delivered, "demonstrating that demand intensifies at real moments in everyday life and not just in specific situations."
Throughout 2025, the company also highlights that it has densified the existing network, expanding 50 locations with additional points in response to high levels of usage and increased demand at partner sites.
At the same time, it extended contracts in more than a hundred locations.
Also highlighted by Powerdot in 2025 was its pioneering role in launching Autocharge in Portugal, in partnership with Miio, a technology that allows charging sessions to start automatically, without the need for apps or cards.
In addition, it inaugurated Powerlab in Porto, a research and development hub dedicated to testing, validating and accelerating next-generation charging technologies, which the company says has already been used "by major car manufacturers for vehicle testing and feature development".
With operations in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium and Poland, Powerdot has already raised more than €465 million in own capital and debt to expand its network, currently managing thousands of charging points.
