Lisbon, Jan. 7, 2026 (Lusa) - The unemployment rate in Portugal fell to 5.7% in November 2025, 0.1 percentage points lower than in October and 0.9 percentage points lower than in November 2024, according to provisional estimates released by INE on Wednesday.
According to the Monthly Employment and Unemployment Estimates published today, the unemployment rate, estimated at 5.7%, reached its lowest level since February 2002 (5.6%).
INE revised the unemployment rate for October 2025 downwards from the initially estimated 5.9% to 5.8%, which is 0.2 percentage points lower than in September 2025, 0.1 percentage points lower than in July of the same year and 0.8 percentage points lower than in October 2024.
With the improvement in the labour market, the unemployed population fell from 327,800 in October to 318,800 in November, representing a decrease compared to the three comparison periods: the previous month (9,000; 2.7%), three months earlier (17,800; 5.3%) and the same month in 2024 (41,100; 11.4%).
