Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Road train collision in Algarve injures 14 passengers

Tavira, Portugal, Sept, 16, 2025 (Lusa) - A collision between two tourist trains travelling between Pedras de El-Rei and Praia do Barril in Tavira on Tuesday caused minor injuries to 14 people, a Civil Protection source told Lusa.

"It was a collision between (road) trains that carry passengers to the beach and, at the time, there were 50 passengers on board," the source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command told Lusa.

The passengers are of "various nationalities" and "there are 14 injured", she said, indicating that the alert was received at 15:55.

Triage teams from the National Medical Emergency Institute (INEM) assisted the passengers at the scene, he added, emphasising that INEM's liaison officer with Civil Protection had already confirmed the existence of the 14 injured, "all of whom were lightly injured".

An emergency and rescue team made up of 29 operatives and 11 vehicles was sent to the scene, the Civil Protection source said.
