Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Tolls between Lisbon, Porto to go up by 70 cents on 1 January

Lisbon, Dec. 27, 2024 (Lusa) - Tolls on the A1 motorway between Lisbon and Porto will rise by 70 cents to €24.60 from 1 January, while those on the A2 between Lisbon and the Algarve will rise by 60 cents to €23.30, the concessionaire announced on Friday.

These increases for class 1 vehicles are based on the year-on-year inflation rate, excluding housing, recorded in October on the mainland, as provided for in the concession contract, and on the additional 0.1% contemplated in the law due to the limitation on toll increases imposed in 2023 due to the context of high inflation.

According to Brisa's statement today, tolls on the motorways under its concession will be updated by 2.21% from 1 January 2025.

The update mechanism covers 52 of the 93 class 1 toll rates, with Brisa pointing out that, as in the past, in 2025 ‘there are cases of toll rates that show a lower than average variation or even zero, and in other cases the toll rates show a higher than average variation because they have not been updated in previous years’.

This explains the increase on the two routes mentioned and the fact that, for example, the toll between Lisbon and Cascais (A5) remains unchanged at €1.50, while the journey between Lisbon and Oeiras increases by five cents to €0.40.

Driving along Lisbon's CREL outer ring road, on the other hand, will cost 15 cents more from 1 January, for a total of €3.70, while the Porto/Valença route (A3) will increase by 20 cents (to €9.95). The Marateca/Caia connection (A2/A6) will increase by 35 cents, to €15.05.

The information released from Brisa today also indicates that the concessionaire plans to invest 64 million euros in its network, namely in improvements to road surfaces and rehabilitating viaducts and embankments, among other works.
