Lisbon, Aug. 20, 2024 (Lusa) - Portuguese hotel group, Vila Galé, announced on Tuesday the start of construction on its first hotel in the Amazon, in Belém, in the Brazilian state of Pará, an investment of 180 million reais (€30 million) to be inaugurated in November 2025.
In a statement, the group said that Vila Galé Collection Amazónia - Belém aims to meet hotel demand for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will take place at that time in Pará.
The new development will be a boutique hotel, located in three former Porto Futuro II warehouses (warehouses 8, 8A and 7, each covering more than 2,000 square metres), with 206 rooms, a bar, a Satsanga Spa with a heated indoor pool and three outdoor pools.
‘The hotel project has been carefully planned to comply with environmental standards, ensuring that both the restaurant and the operation are sustainable,’ emphasises Vila Galé.
Quoted in the statement, the founder and president of Vila Galé, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, explains that the new hotel ‘will all be inside warehouses, which makes it different from all the other developments that are part of the chain’.
'We're going to keep the existing horizontal format, with the aim of preserving the original architectural integrity, as well as the size. We're not going to impact on the landscape. It will be surprising,’ he emphasises.
Warehouse 8, on the banks of Guajará Bay, will house the reception, lobby, spa with heated indoor pool, restaurant and bar. The upper floor will have rooms and two meeting rooms for social and corporate events.
Warehouse 7 will be dedicated to rooms, both on the ground and first floors, and will have another meeting room, while warehouse 8A will include a lounge area, library and more rooms.
In the hotel's outdoor area there will be two swimming pools for adults and a children's pool equipped with a water park.
The Vila Galé group currently has 44 hotels, 32 in Portugal, 10 in Brazil, one in Cuba and another in Spain.
This number will increase in the coming months, as the Vila Galé Collection Sunset Cumbuco, in Ceará (Brazil), is scheduled to open in November this year and, in April 2025, the Vila Galé Collection Ouro Preto, the first development in Minas Gerais (Brazil).
In Portugal, Vila Galé Casas D'Elvas is scheduled to open in February 2025, followed by Vila Galé Collection Ponte de Lima in April.
