Lisbon, Aug. 26, 2026 (Lusa) - The main Portuguese stock market index, the PSI, reversed its opening trend on Wednesday and was down 0.22% after an hour and a half, with Galp falling 1.97%.

At 9:30 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI stood at 9,424.34 points, with nine shares rising, five falling, and Semapa and Altri unchanged at €20.75 and €4.74 respectively.

Galp led the way, rising by 1.97% to €20.86, whilst the price of a barrel of Brent crude fell again by 2.8%.

Following Galp were Ibersol (0.78% down to €10.22), EDP (0.17% down to €4.68), EDP Renewables (0.15% down to €13.75) and Corticeira Amorim (0.14% down to €7.05).

Conversely, the construction firms Teixeira Duarte (up 0.63% to €0.48) and Mota-Engil (up 0.43% to €4.68) were the top gainers.

NOS and REN both rose by 0.28% to €4.96 and €3.57 respectively, whilst Sonae rose by 0.25% to €2.03 and Navigator by 0.24% to €3.28.

Posting more modest gains were Jerónimo Martins (up 0.11% to €18.23), CTT (up 0.08% to €6.56) and BCP (up 0.05% to €1.11).

The main European stock markets were trading mixed today, whilst awaiting the release of Nvidia's quarterly results and macroeconomic data from the United States.

Meanwhile, the Brent crude barrel for October delivery, the European benchmark, fell 2.82% to $86.08.

Investors are optimistic about the possibility of a temporary corridor being opened in the Strait of Hormuz to restore safe shipping.

The markets are also awaiting the release of Nvidia's quarterly results, as well as the second estimate of second-quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and US consumer price data for July.

The euro was trading at $1.167, whilst bitcoin rose by 1.01% to $78,988.72.

The price of gold fell by 0.44% to $4,636.55 per ounce, whilst silver rose by 0.4% to $68.92 per ounce.
