Lusa - Business News - Cabo Verde: Q2 exports rose 22.2% YoY, imports fell 11% - INE

Praia, Aug. 4, 2025 (Lusa) - Cabo Verdean exports increased by 22.2% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to data released on Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Processed and preserved fish remained the main export product, accounting for 62.3% of the total, despite a drop of 20.3 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2024.

Imports, in turn, fell by 11% in the same period.

Europe remained the main destination for Cabo Verdean exports, absorbing 95.3% of the total. Spain led among European customers, with 47.6%, driven by the purchase of fish and canned fish.

It was followed by the United Kingdom (23.1%), Italy (14.9%) and Portugal, which recorded a 13.1% drop, falling to 9.5%.

As for imports, Europe remained Cabo Verde's main supplier, with 59.2%, followed by Africa (19.0%), Asia (15.2%) and America (5.6%).

Portugal was the largest supplier, with a share of 26.6%, despite a decrease of 10.3% compared to the same period in 2024.

Nigeria stood out as a newcomer, appearing in second place among the main supplier countries, mainly due to imports of fuels, one of the products most purchased by Cabo Verde, according to INE.

Spain ranked third (17.1%), followed by China (5.9%), France (5.2%) and Saudi Arabia (4%), which remain among the main trading partners, albeit with variations compared to the previous year.
