Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes down on Wednesday in line with Europe

Lisbon, July 16, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed in the red on Wednesday, following the negative trend seen among its main European counterparts, penalised by falls in energy sector stocks.

The PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) benchmark index fell 0.17% to 7,694.04 points, with only six of the 15 stocks listed recording gains.

Among the falls, energy companies such as EDP and Galp Energia stood out.

EDP Renováveis fell 1.07% to €10.15, while its parent company EDP lost 0.42% to €3.81 and Galp Energia fell 0.68% to €16.02.

Also in negative territory were Ibersol, which fell 1.22% to €9.74, Mota-Engil, which lost 0.89% to €4.23, and Corticeira Amorim, which fell 0.76% to €7.80.

On the gains side, REN rose 0.98% to €3.10, Sonae advanced 0.80% to €1.26 and BCP gained 0.30% to €0.66.

Across Europe, the Paris stock exchange fell 0.57%, Frankfurt lost 0.21% and London fell 0.13%. Madrid escaped losses, albeit slightly, and rose 0.08% in this session.
