Maputo, July 1, 2025 (Lusa) - Mozambique’s government announced on Tuesday that the global fund in Mozambique will provide financing to at least 13 audiovisual and film initiatives, amounting to 6.5 million meticais (€86,000).
The National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC) of Mozambique, an entity under the Ministry of Education and Culture, announced the results of the competition for project selection. The announcement indicates that the institute has approved four short film production projects for funding, as well as the same number of music video production projects.
In the documentary production category, the committee approved two initiatives: a project for the production and exhibition of plays and two film projection projects.
The audiovisual and cinematography projects will receive funding from the 6.5 million meticais fund that Mozambique’s government announced on 16 October.
This is the second edition of the competition to support and finance audiovisual and cinema projects, launched by INICC in Mozambique. The competition aims primarily to encourage and support the dissemination and internationalisation of Mozambican culture.
“The launch and availability of 6.5 million meticais for this second edition is something we are very proud of,” said the then Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, on 16 October 2024, during the launch ceremony for the competition in Maputo.
“This edition will cover the entire country and aims to support or finance film production with a focus on new talent and first works, the production of music videos, and the distribution and exhibition of audiovisual and cinematographic works,” said the minister.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism launched the first edition of this competition in 2020 to provide funding and support for audiovisual and film production, making five million meticais (approximately €66,200) available at the time to support the sector.
