Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Taxpayers can use new portal to report bureaucracy, suggest solutions

Lisbon, June 9, 2025 (Lusa) - The Portuguese Taxpayers’ Association on Monday officially launched the Stop Bureaucracy portal, through which taxpayers can report the bureaucratic obstacles they face in their daily lives and suggest solutions.

In a statement, the taxpayers' association (APC) said that the aim of the website is to map the bureaucratic obstacles affecting taxpayers and give citizens and businesses a voice in reporting bureaucratic processes that are “excessive, inconsistent or unnecessary”.

The initiative had been in preparation for several months, says APC, stressing that it “gained renewed visibility and priority” after the “government announcement” that it had chosen administrative simplification as a strategic focus for the legislative term.

“This government commitment reinforced the relevance of the portal and accelerated its public launch,” the statement said, specifying that through the portal, anyone can submit their case or suggest improvements to administrative procedures “that they consider unjustifiably complex, lengthy or redundant”.

The promoters of the initiative say that the aim is not, however, for Stop Bureaucracy to be limited to reporting complaints, adding that it also intends to compile and classify the cases received and produce reports, which will be delivered to the Government and made public.

Quoted in the press release, the person responsible for the initiative at APC, Jorge Lourenço Pires, stresses that the platform aims to “listen to citizens and push for concrete reforms that simplify everyone’s lives”.

The president of APC, Filipe Charters de Azevedo, said that the ultimate goal of Stop Bureaucracy (accessible at www.stop-burocracia.pt) is to stimulate administrative reform, based on real experiences documented by taxpayers, users and citizens themselves, considering that it is not possible to stand still “in the face of the absurd complexity of certain processes that consume time, resources and patience, without any real benefit to society”.
