Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Mota-Engil buys remaining 50% of Brazil unit after Petrobras mega-deal

Porto, May 29, 2025 (Lusa) - Portugal's Mota-Engil group has completed the acquisition of the 50% that it did not already own in its Brazilian subsidiary, Empresa Construtora Brasil (ECB), after announcing that it had signed two contracts with Petrobras for around €490 million.

Carlos Mota Santos, chairman and CEO of Mota-Engil, confirmed in a statement sent to Lusa that "the acquisition of the remaining 50% in Empresa Construtora Brasil (ECB), based in Belo Horizonte and specialising in infrastructure, was completed this week."

The value of the operation was not disclosed.

According to the manager, "the transaction that has now taken place is the result of a reinforcement of investment in Brazil following Mota-Engil's entry into ECB's capital at the end of 2012, which culminated in the company's unequivocal growth during this period, with expansion in the Brazilian territory as well as the integration of innovation and diversification of its activities, especially in the Oil & Gas segment" - in which the group said that it intends to continue to deepen its activity in the future.

"In this new cycle we will endeavour to continue to establish ECB among the best Brazilian engineering companies, raising it to the level of market potential in which we believe strongly for the future," he said, highlighting “ambitious and transformative public investment plans” which, he argues, “will be decisive for the development of the Brazilian economy.”
