ZAGREB, 27 June (Hina) - An exhibition about the Dalmatian dog, also known as the Dalmatiner, a globally renowned dog breed, was staged in Šibenik, marking the official opening of the museum dedicated to this breed.
The House of the Dalmatian Dog was officially opened today in downtown Šibenik, and according to the hosts, one of the goals is to brand Dalmatia, and Croatia as a whole, as the homeland of the Dalmatian dog.
Igor Mladenović, from the creative agency HEARTH thinking&doing, which conceived and realised this project, said that the Dalmatian dog is one of the most recognisable breeds in the world, but that too few people associate it with Croatia.
"There isn't a person on the street who, upon seeing a Dalmatian, would say 'look, a poodle'. That's impossible. But we believe far too few people connect it with Croatia as much as they should, and that's the mission of this museum, to make the Dalmatian widely recognised and associated with Croatia," Mladenović added.
The House of the Dalmatian Dog offers visitors a fun, educational, and interactive experience. It combines the breed's history and characteristics, as well as insights into the pop culture with which the Dalmatian is undeniably linked, especially through film art.
Among those attending the official opening were Šibenik Mayor Željko Burić, Šibenik-Knin County head Paško Rakić, and Domagoj Mikulić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds.
