Lisbon, May 15, 2025 (Lusa) - CP - Comboios de Portugal announced on Thursday that it intends to double the number of ticket vending machines in Lisbon to automate ticket purchases, and facilitate access to mobility services.

The company said in a statement that 308 machines are already being installed at stations on the main lines in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (Sintra, Cascais, Azambuja, Sado, Oeste, and Alentejo), and 278 machines are already in operation, 90% of the total planned.

Purchases from automatic ticket machines now account for more than 50% of sales on Lisbon's urban services and, with this increase, CP expects to reach around 70% of transactions through this channel.

The new machines allow passengers to purchase tickets for Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Regional, InterRegional, and Lisbon, Coimbra and Porto urban trains, as well as Navegante passes, Urban and Regional passesand Green Rail Passes, and accept payments with MBway and contactless technology.
