Mindelo, Cabo Verde, Sept. 19, 2024 (Lusa) - The ETE Group announced in a statement on Thursday that it has inaugurated a new logistics centre on the island of São Vicente, Cabo Verde. The centre aims to improve the movement of goods and benefit the archipelago's economy.
‘The new structure will generate local employment opportunities and promote synergies with local partners, contributing to the economic growth of the region and, consequently, the country,’ said Jorge Maurício, vice-president of the ETE Group in Cabo Verde.
Located in Lazareto, the centre opened its doors on Wednesday with 11,500 square metres, including temperature-controlled areas, important for increasing ‘trade, mainly between the islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente and for the more touristic market, the islands of Sal and Boavista respectively,’ explained the group.
Logistical difficulties are often pointed out by local producers as an obstacle to the flow of agricultural production, particularly for the large international hotel groups present in the archipelago, which import many of the products they offer to tourists.
The new centre ‘consolidates the ETE Group's logistics operations in Cabo Verde’ and aims to ‘directly support the activities of local companies’, such as S&C Cabo Verde (naval engineering), ETE Logística Cabo Verde, Transinsular Cabo Verde and CV Interilhas, the domestic public maritime transport concessionaire.
In Cabo Verde, the ETE Group has an area of approximately 4,000 square metres of covered storage, including temperature-controlled areas, and is present on the main islands.
Owned exclusively by Portuguese capital, the group has its own operations in nine countries, employs more than 1,330 people and generates an annual turnover of more than €325 million.
