Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market trading higher on Thursday morning, BCP leading riser

Lisbon, Aug. 13, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading higher on Thursday morning, with BCP leading the gains, rising 1.42% to €1.11.

At around 9.40 am in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was up 0.13% at 9,285.59 points, with seven companies rising, six falling and three unchanged (Altri at €4.77, Navigator at €3.25 and Sonae at €2.02).

BCP's shares were followed by those of Ibersol, Jerónimo Martins and Semapa, which rose by 0.91% to €9.94, 0.52% to €17.30 and 0.25% to €20.30 respectively.

CTT, NOS and Teixeira Duarte gained 0.24% to €6.39, 0.21% to €4.81 and 0.20% to €0.49.

Conversely, EDP, EDP Renewables and Corticeira Amorim fell by 0.66% to €4.54, 0.65% to €13.78 and 0.59% to €6.77 respectively.

The other three companies whose share prices fell were Galp (-0.34% to €20.48), REN (-0.28% to €3.57) and Mota-Engil (-0.09% to €4.56).

In Europe, the main stock markets opened higher today, with oil prices down and stable below $90, following news that year-on-year inflation in the US had slowed to 3.4% in July.

The euro was stable against the dollar, trading at $1.1526 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.

On the geopolitical front, and despite the lack of progress in peace talks, the price of oil remains stable.

The price of the benchmark Brent crude oil contract in Europe fell by 1.07% to $88.03.

The main US stock market indices are expected to rise by 0.10% and 0.07% for the Dow Jones and the technology-heavy Nasdaq respectively, after closing mixed on Wednesday, the day it was announced that year-on-year inflation in the US had fallen by one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.4% in July.

XTB analyst Javier Cabrera, quoted by Efe, explains that US inflation was «in line with expectations» and suggests «lower expectations of interest rate rises» by the US Federal Reserve (Fed).

Industrial production figures for the European Union are due to be released today.
