Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Coimbra University opens new school of management

Coimbra, Portugal, June 19, 2026 (Lusa) - The Coimbra School of Management (CSM) is the new executive education school at the University of Coimbra (UC), which focuses on advanced programmes geared towards the challenges facing the economy and society, the institution announced on Friday.

“Our mission is to develop purpose-driven leaders capable of generating economic, social and environmental impact, contributing to organisations that are more responsible, innovative and aligned with the major challenges of our time,” said CSM’s executive director, Rosa Monteiro, said in a press release sent to the Lusa news agency.

As part of UC, CSM is creating a platform for knowledge production to equip the new generation of Portuguese leaders to make decisions in critical contexts, combining academic excellence with practical application.

“The Coimbra School of Management contributes to the consolidation of one of the University of Coimbra’s core missions: to promote high-quality education for people at different stages of life. At the same time, our commitment to the new school allows us to affirm the quality of our teaching in the fields of management and economics on the international stage”, emphasised the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão.

Drawing on the expertise of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra (FEUC), the CSM is established within a multidisciplinary academic environment, bringing together fields such as management, economics, public policy, sociology and international relations.

For the dean of FEUC, José Manuel Mendes, “CSM’s commitment to innovation and the development of sustainable business models also stems from its proximity to research centres, one of the world’s leading university incubators, and technology companies with an international presence”.

Among CSM’s advanced training programmes, the ‘Executive Master’ in “Digital Money and Payments in Transformative Times” stands out, focusing on the future of payments and the digitalisation of critical financial infrastructure.

The teaching staff includes leading figures from organisations such as the European Commission, the World Bank, the Bank for International Settlements, the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and various central banks and financial authorities from different regions.

The school also focuses on areas such as defence economics, artificial intelligence and innovation to address current geopolitical and strategic challenges in a rapidly changing international context.

The field of people and talent management is identified as a central pillar of the school, serving as a cross-cutting dimension of leadership, innovation and sustainability.

CSM has a pool of over 200 specialist trainers from various business and institutional sectors, both nationally and internationally, to offer more than 20 courses to an expected cohort of 400 trainees.

In the future, the school intends to launch an international MBA programme, expand its partnerships with the business sector, and become a leading institution for the community of C-level leaders.
