Lusa - Business News - Macau: Casino operator Galaxy profits rise 8% in 2026 Q1

Macau, China, May 12, 2026 (Lusa) – Macau gambling concessionaire Galaxy announced on Tuesday that operating profits rose 8% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year.

The group recorded operating profits of HK$3.6 billion (€413 million) between January and March, it said in a statement sent to the Hong Kong Stock Market.

Net revenues reached HK$12.4 billion (€1.42 billion), up 11% from 2025. However, compared to the final quarter of last year, revenues fell 10%, and operating profits retreated 17%.

Group gross revenue in the first quarter reached HK$12.73 billion (€1.46 billion), a 16% increase over the same period in 2025, operator data shows.

Mass market revenues rose 17% to HK$9.6 billion (€1.1 billion), while VIP revenues (high rollers) increased 18% to HK$2.3 billion (€263 million).

Galaxy Macau, the group's flagship property, generated net revenue of HK$10.3 billion (€1.18 billion) in the first quarter, up 13% year on year.

The complex recorded operating profits of HK$3.3 billion (€379 million), up 11% from the first quarter of 2025.

The operator also stated that it hosted more than 80 events during the quarter. These included concerts, shows, and sports competitions such as the ITTF World Cup Macau table tennis tournament, as well as performances by artists including Dylan Wang, Tian Zhen, and the South Korean band DAY6.

The group said that the occupancy rate of the nine Galaxy Macau hotels reached 99% during the quarter. The company maintains a solid financial position, with HK$39.2 billion (€4.5 billion) in cash and liquid investments.

During the first four months of this year, the territory recorded a 12.1% increase compared to the previous year, totalling 85.8 billion patacas (€9.1 billion).

Macau closed last year with total revenues of 247.4 billion patacas (€26.15 billion), up 9.1% from the previous year’s 226.8 billion patacas (€24 billion).

As the world's gambling capital, Macau remains the only location in China where casino gambling is legal.

Six concessionaires, MGM, Galaxy, Venetian, Melco, Wynn, and SJM, operate in the territory. These companies renewed their concession contracts in December 2023 for the following ten years, which took effect on 1 January 2024.
