Lisboa, Nov. 14, 2025 (Lusa) - In an interview with Lusa, the founder and CEO of Science, which works with brain-computer interfaces, played down concerns about brain implants, arguing that the brain "is already hacked by social networks".
Asked about the concerns that the brain-computer interface (BCI) may generate for some people, Max Hodak, who was a speaker at this year's Web Summit, says that brains are already 'hacked' by social media".
Science is considered a leader in “Brain Computer Interfaces” (BCI), "focused on enabling a more promising future through neural engineering", said the company.
"The iPhone is a much bigger concern for me than these brain implants, from that perspective," points out Max Hodak, who previously founded Neuralink.
The brain "is essentially a computer", and information can be obtained in and through the brain in countless ways, he believes.
"I think the iPhone is crazy technology. If you leave it in another room for 10 minutes, away from where you are, people start to get anxious" and need to have it back, argues Max Hodak to explain the current addiction to mobile phones.
This "is an absurd level of addiction", he argues.
"I think that just because information comes in through the eyes or the ears, rather than through a connection, it's not really any different," he added.
