Dili, Oct. 15, 2025 (Lusa) - The Asian Development Bank on Wednesday approved €3.4 million in support to improve roads in the municipality of Ermera, in the centre of Timor-Leste, and to connect rural communities to markets.
The support, provided through the Asian Development Fund, aims to improve an "11-kilometre road corridor that connects rural communities to markets and essential services, while protecting the infrastructure against climate risks", according to a statement released by the institution.
The project will rehabilitate the road infrastructure between Ermera and Fatubessi, in the centre of the country, and also strengthen the institutional capacity of the General Directorate of Roads, Bridges and Flood Control of the Ministry of Public Works.
"This project empowers rural communities to stay connected to markets, essential services and livelihoods. By strengthening the government's capacity to plan and maintain climate-resilient infrastructure, we are paving the way for a safer and more resilient Ermera," said the director of ABD in Timo-Leste, Stefania Dina.
According to the statement, the project supports Timor-Leste's "commitment to strengthen transport connectivity, with the aim of empowering communities, improving access to services and reducing climate risks and disasters".
