Lisbon, Oct. 1, 2025 (Lusa) - The Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Hugo Espírito, announced on Tuesday that the works to improve terminal 2 at Lisbon airport will be completed in October.
‘We're going to inaugurate t2 [terminal 2] in October of this year,’ he revealed at the Infrastructure, Mobility and Housing Commission, also guaranteeing that the timetable initially planned for the works at Lisbon airport is going according to plan.
At stake now are works to improve the quality of service.
Subsequently, subject to an environmental impact assessment, a second phase of improvement and expansion works will be implemented by the airport concessionaire, ANA, to increase capacity from the current 38 to up to 45 movements per hour by 2028. These works at Lisbon airport, awarded to the Mota-Engil and Vinci consortium, involve an investment of more than €233 million and aim to mitigate the current congestion of the infrastructure until the start of the new Luís de Camões airport in Alcochete.
At the beginning of the year, the Public Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal with the Supreme Administrative Court on the grounds that an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was necessary for the first phase of the Portela improvement works, which also include the expansion of Terminal 1 and the creation of an aircraft apron.
For its part, the Portuguese Environmental Association (APA) argues that an environmental assessment would not be necessary at this stage as it would not alter the increase in the infrastructure's capacity, and that it would only carry out a study for the increase in flight capacity. A position shared by ANA and the executive, which at the time filed a challenge to the administrative action.
