Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stocks slightly higher with EDP Renováveis up almost 2%

Lisbon, Sept. 24, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading slightly higher on Wednesday, with EDP Renováveis shares rising 1.97% to €10.87 and BCP down 1.24% to €0.73.

At around 9.35 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI, which has 16 companies since Monday, maintained its opening trend and advanced 0.08% to 7,817.90 points, with seven shares rising, eight falling and one remaining unchanged (Teixeira Duarte at €0.58).

EDP Renováveis' shares were followed by those of EDP, Altri and Navigator, which rose 0.46% to €3.92, 0.20% to €4.99 and 0.18% to €3.25.

More moderately, shares in REN, Galp and Corticeira Amorim rose 0.17% to €2.92, 0.16% to €15.95 and 0.14% to €7.20.

On the other hand, Jerónimo Martins, Ibersol and CTT shares fell 0.96% to €20.64, 0.80% to €9.90 and 0.54% to €7.31.

Semapa, Sonae and Mota-Engil shares fell 0.33% to €18.10, 0.30% to €1.31 and 0.19% to €5.20.

NOS shares were also down, namely 0.26% to €3.80.

The main European stock markets opened lower today, in a session with few economic references.

The markets opened lower, after the New York Stock Exchange closed in the red on Tuesday and the chairman of the US Federal Reserve (Fed), Jerome Powell, stated that assets on Wall Street are at a ‘fairly high level’.

In this session, there are few references from Europe, the highlight being the publication of the Ifo index, which measures the business climate and the economic situation in Germany.

There will also be a non-monetary policy meeting of the European Central Bank (ECB) today.

Stock market futures on Wall Street, which closed in the red on Tuesday, indicate slight rises for the Dow Jones and Nasdaq, with increases not exceeding 0.11%.

On the commodities market, gold, a safe-haven asset, was retreating to $3,774.14 per troy ounce, down from a new all-time high of $3,779.26 recorded on Tuesday.

Brent, Europe's benchmark crude oil for November delivery, is advancing to $67.72, up from $67.63 on Tuesday.

The euro was weaker at $1.1788 on the Frankfurt exchange market, compared to $1.1805 on Tuesday and a new four-year high of $1.1865 on 16 September.
