Herning, Denmark, Sept. 14, 2025 (Lusa) - Portugal has won seven medals, two gold, one silver and four excellence medals, at the 9th edition of the European Championship of the Professions (EuroSkills), after competing against 32 countries over three days in Denmark.
The gold medals went to Marco Malheiro, from Ponte de Lima (Viana do Castelo), in welding, and to the team made up of Diogo Pinto, from Lousada (Porto), and Loris Sgroj, from Celorico de Basto (Braga), in robotic systems integration.
The Portuguese silver medal was awarded to Diogo Botelho and Simão Alves, both from Torres Vedras (Lisbon), in the field of mechatronics.
Botelho and Alves also won the prize for best in the nation, which is awarded to the competitor with the best score in each country. The two scored 777 points, the highest mark in Portugal.
Despite winning the gold medal, Marco Malheiro scored 738 points, and the Pinto-Sgroj duo totalled 728.
The four medals for excellence were awarded to Leonor Silva, from Santa Maria da Feira (Aveiro), in hairdressing, Dmitry Zhivitsa, from Águeda (Aveiro), in milling, Nelson Ribeiro, from Felgueiras (Porto), in industrial control, and Bruno Ribeiro, from Vila Real, in electrical installations.
EuroSkills took place between Tuesday and today in Herning, on the Jutland Peninsula, where Portugal had 15 young people competing in 13 professional areas. The event had around 103,000 visitors.
The young Portuguese received their medals at the Jyske Bank Boxen in the closing ceremony of what is considered the ‘Olympic Games of the Professions’.
The European Championship of the Professions will be held again in 2027.
The 10th edition of EuroSkills will be co-organised by Germany and Luxembourg in Düsseldorf, and is scheduled to take place from 22 to 26 September 2026 at the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition centre.
