Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Vila Galé Hotels expect to open 9 units in Portugal, Brazil by 2027

Lisbon, Sept. 11, 2025 (Lusa) - The Vila Galé Group plans to open nine more hotels in Portugal and Brazil by 2027, which should bring the total number of hotels in the chain to 61, it announced in a statement on Thursday.

"We are investing in projects that promote tourism, combining history, culture and sustainability. The aim is always to offer a differentiating experience," says the group's founder and chairman, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, quoted in the statement.

By 2027, "nine new resorts will be opened, expanding our presence in strategic regions of Portugal and Brazil".

With these new developments, whose investment the group did not disclose, Vila Galé will reach a total of 61 hotels and 12,764 rooms by 2027, compared to the 52 hotels (11,764 rooms) currently operating in Portugal, Brazil, Spain, and Cuba.

In Portugal, five hotels will open: Vila Galé Miranda do Douro, Vila Galé Penacova, Vila Galé Paço Real de Caxias, Vila Galé Tejo (at Quinta da Cardiga) and Palácio Almada Carvalhais, in Largo Conde Barão, Lisbon.

In Brazil, the chain plans to strengthen its presence with four new projects: Vila Galé Collection São Luís, Vila Galé Collection Maranhão, Vila Galé Collection Coruripe Alagoas and Vila Galé Nep Kids Coruripe Alagoas, dedicated exclusively to children.

The statement says that in just one year the group has risen from 122nd to 105th place in the annual “ranking” of Hotels Magazine, "one of the most prestigious publications in the sector, which classifies the largest hotel chains in the world based on the number of rooms in operation".

This result, they add, refers to 2024, when the hotel chain had 9,947 rooms in 45 hotels.

"This rise reinforces the consolidation of the Portuguese chain among the main global hotel players," the group emphasises.

Taking into account the units already in operation this year, Vila Galé expects to join the group of the 100 largest hotel chains in the world for the first time.

"This result reflects the strategic vision of the group, which is committed to a solid expansion plan," he said.
