Lisbon, Sept. 5, 2025 (Lusa) - The main index of the Portuguese stock exchange, the PSI, had lost 0.14% since the opening of trading, after an hour of trading, reversing the opening gains.
By 09:00, the PSI was down 0.14% to 7,738.50 points, with six shares up, eight down and Semapa remaining at €17.68.
The biggest losers were BCP, down 0.92% to €0.73, followed by Ibersol, down 0.21% to €9.68 and REN, down 0.17% to €2.94.
Sonae fell 0.15% and both Corticeira Amorim and NOS dropped 0.13% (to €7.51 and €3.94, respectively), with EDP (0.11% to €3.73) and Navigator (0.06% to €3.31) with the smallest reductions.
Conversely, EDP Renováveis was the biggest gainer (0.71% to €9.95), ahead of Mota-Engil (0.39% to €5.12) and Altri (0.30% to €5.01).
With more modest increases were Jerónimo Martins, which gained 0.18% to €21.88, CTT, which rose 0.14% to €7.13, and Galp, which rose 0.09% to €16.16.
Among the main European markets, the session began in different directions, on a day when more US employment statistics are expected, which could condition the next steps in the country's monetary policy.
The opening performance of the markets in Europe follows a session in which Wall Street closed higher.
The results of the session indicate that the selective Dow Jones Industrial Average index advanced 0.77% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.98%. The broader S&P500, meanwhile, advanced 0.83 per cent, enough to set a new record at 6,502.08 points.
In commodities, the price of a barrel of Brent oil fell 0.48% to $66.66, while the euro rose to $1.167.
