Lusa - Business News - Mozambique: Preferential treatment on exports to the EU

Maputo,Aug 29, 2025 (Lusa) - The European Union ambassador to Mozambique said on Friday that the country will now benefit from "preferential treatment" for exporting manufactured products to the European market, with the activation of the cumulation instrument.

"Once activated, cumulation will allow Mozambique to import essential inputs and still benefit from preferential treatment when exporting finished products to the European market," said the European Union (EU) ambassador to Mozambique, António Maggiore, quoted by the media today.

The European Union's preferential rules of origin include the concept of cumulation, which allows materials imported from third countries or processed in a non-partner country to be considered as originating in the EU or a trading partner country, as explained on the European Commission's website.

According to the diplomat, the instrument could be useful for various industries, such as clothing and processed food products.
