Lusa - Business News - Cabo Verde: New wind turbines arrive on Saturday to expand renewable production

Praia, Aug. 28, 2025 (Lusa) - Cabo Verde will receive new wind turbines on Saturday which, once installed, will be the "tallest structures in the country", with 105 metres to the hub and around 180 metres to the tip of the blade, Cabeólica announced.

"The new large wind turbines will be part of Cabeólica's expansion project. The components include blades, towers and nacelles," the company explained in a statement.

Transport of the parts to the Santiago wind farm begins on 2 September and is expected to take around two weeks.

The project supports the national energy transition targets for 2025/2026, which include increasing the share of renewable energy in the electricity mix to at least 30% and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

The forecast for 2030 is to reach 50% renewable energy, placing Cabo Verde among the most proactive countries in the fight against climate change.

The project will make it possible to reduce more than 50,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, totalling around 100,000 tonnes with Cabeólica's global operation.

It will also help decarbonise the economy, strengthen energy independence and security with turbines and batteries (BESS) and make electricity more competitive.

"With these turbines, we reinforce the capacity to generate clean energy and Cabo Verde's commitment to a sustainable energy future," said the company.
