Praia, Ãug. 27, 2025 (Lusa) - Edelweiss, a Swiss airline belonging to the Lufthansa Group, will operate direct flights from Zurich to the islands of Santiago and São Vicente from 30 October, the Cabo Verde Tourism Institute (ITCV) announced on Tuesday.

"These operations by Edelweiss, which transports tourists to more than 90 destinations around the world, represent added value for national tourism and demonstrate confidence in the Cabo Verde's market," the ITCV said in a statement.

The flights will take place on Thursdays from 30 October and are already available for sale on the company's website until March 2026.

Tickets start at around €140, depending on the date and destination in Cabo Verde.

The government had already announced that, also in October, new flights will connect Lisbon and Porto to Cabo Verde's capital, Praia, and the islands of São Vicente and Boa Vista.

As well as boosting tourism, the driving force behind Cabo Verde's economy, the increase in air links expands the population's travel options, which are strongly linked to emigration, especially from Santiago, where half of the archipelago's 500,000 inhabitants live.
