Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market follows European trend, rises 0.32%

Lisbon, Aug. 27, 2025 (Lusa) - The Portuguese stock market rose 0.32% to 7,869.52 points on Wednesday morning, in line with the rest of Europe and with EDP Renováveis leading the way with a rise of 2.80%.

At 09:25, of the 15 companies listed on the main index, the PSI, four were up, 10 were in negative territory and Jerónimo Martins remained unchanged at €20.96 per share.

EDP Renováveis' shares led the gains (+2.80% to €10.63), followed by EDP's, which rose 1.41% to €3.89.

Galp (+0.88% to €16.57) and REN (+0.50% to €2.99) were also up by less than 1%.

BCP, Mota-Engil, Altri, Ibersol, CTT and Sonae fell 1.33%, 0.78%, 0.78%, 0.41%, 0.40% and 0.31% respectively, to €0.74, €4.80, €5.09, €9.78, €7.48 and €1.30.

In the same direction were Navigator, Semapa, Corticeira Amorim and NOS, with losses of 0.30%, 0.11%, 0.13% and 0.25% respectively, to €3.36, €18.04, €7.70 and €3.94.

The Lisbon stock exchange opened today's session up 0.45% to 7,881.43 points, after having closed Tuesday down, with the benchmark PSI index falling 0.92% to 7,844.17 points.

Lisbon was in line with the main European stock markets, which also opened today with slight gains, reacting to the rise in New York the day before.

Shortly before 09:00 in Lisbon, the EuroStoxx 600 advanced 0.09% to 554.72 points. The Paris stock exchange led the way, rising 0.46%, while London gained 0.17% and Frankfurt advanced 0.03%.

On the other hand, Milan was down 0.79% and Madrid retreated 0.48%.

Contributing to these gains is the recovery on Wall Street, which closed Tuesday higher, with investors largely unaffected by yet another attack by US President Donald Trump on the independence of the central bank (the Fed), as they await Nvidia's quarterly results.

The final results of the session indicate that the selective Dow Jones Industrial Average index gained 0.3%, the technology Nasdaq advanced 0.44% and the broader S&P500 advanced 0.4 %.

Donald Trump decided to remove Federal Reserve (Fed) Governor Lisa Cook from her position over accusations of falsifying documents on mortgage applications, although Cook has stated that she will not resign from her post.

In commodities, the price of a barrel of Brent oil fell 0.07% to $67.17.

The troy ounce of gold fell 0.52% to $3,375.9, while bitcoin was trading at $111,063, down 0.26%, after falling below $110,000 for the first time since the beginning of July.
