Lusa - Business News - Mozambique: President promises policies to enhance business environment

Maputo, Aug. 25, 2025 (Lusa) - The president of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, on Monday promised policies to improve the business environment in the country, with a focus on strengthening legal predictability and fighting corruption in the public and private sectors.

"Our government is determined to continue implementing policies to improve the business environment in Mozambique, to unblock everything that blocks what we can do here in Mozambique to create a good business environment," said the head of state in Maputo.

Daniel Chapo, who was speaking at the opening of the 60th edition of the Maputo International Trade Fair (Facim), the largest exhibition of goods and services in the country, said that the government was focussing on simplifying procedures "so as not to complicate the private sector".

"We are determined to strengthen legal predictability in Mozambique. Macroeconomic predictability must also be essential, so that our national and foreign investors can continue to trust and invest in Mozambique," he said.

The president also expressed his determination to fight corruption in the public and private sectors, so that "this evil" does not hinder the business environment and the attractiveness of national and foreign investment.

To international partners, Chapo reiterated the "unique opportunities" and "economic stability" that the country offers.

"Mozambique has a geostrategic location, with ports, development corridors and various other potentialities; vast resources, mineral, natural, agricultural, tourist, and above all a humble, hard-working, friendly and welcoming people," he said.

A total of 3,150 Mozambican and international exhibitors are expected at the 60th edition of Facim, Mozambique's largest exhibition of goods and services, which will run until 31 August.

The event is being held under the slogan "Promoting economic diversification towards sustainable and competitive development in Mozambique".

According to Mozambique's government, 800 foreign exhibitors and 2,350 national exhibitors are expected to take part in Facim, from a total of 27 countries represented.

According to government spokesman Inocêncio Impissa, the 60th edition of the fair, at the Ricatla site in the Marracuene municipal district of Maputo province, is expected to welcome around 70,000 visitors. The organisation has designated Gaza province and neighbouring South Africa as exhibitors of honour at the 2025 event.

As well as exhibitions and other business-related activities, the event also hosts a business forum with South Africa.

Every year, Mozambique's largest business fair showcases Mozambique's economic potential and business and investment opportunities in the country's business sector and abroad, as well as other activities, including seminars, promotional sessions, and networking opportunities.
