Marracuene, Mozambique, Aug. 25, 2025 (Lusa) - The president of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, said on Monday that the Maputo International Fair (Facim), the country's largest exhibition of goods and services, which opened this morning, symbolises the "turning of the page" for the new cycle of governance.
"This Facim symbolises the turning of the historical page for a new cycle of governance," declared Daniel Chapo, during his opening speech at the 60th edition of Facim.
For Mozambique's head of state, who took office in January after a turbulent post-election process, this change consolidates his commitment to local production, jobs for young people, agricultural production "that feeds the people", education, health, infrastructure, as well as tourism, industry, mineral resources and energy.
The President also emphasised the "other potentialities that this great Mozambique has, above all agro-industry, the expansion of modern infrastructures and social and digital inclusion".
Every year, Mozambique's largest business fair showcases Mozambique's economic potential and business and investment opportunities in the country's business sector and abroad, as well as other activities, including seminars, promotional sessions, and networking opportunities.
Chapo also emphasised the need to work together to build a "diversified, inclusive and sustainable" economy that ensures prosperity for all Mozambicans, regardless of their political affiliation, ethnic origin or religious affiliation.
"In this sense, allow us to convey a message of confidence and hope: the future of Mozambique is in our hands (...). With faith in the talent of our people, with pride in our path, with our eyes set on the future," said the Mozambican President.
The 2025 edition of Facim runs until Sunday under the slogan "Promoting economic diversification towards sustainable and competitive development in Mozambique". It is being attended by the Portuguese Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade and Services, Pedro Machado, at the invitation of the Mozambican authorities, who is also due to meet with members of Mozambique's government and Portuguese businesspeople until Tuesday in Maputo.
According to information previously shared by Mozambique's government, 800 foreign exhibitors and 2,350 national exhibitors are expected to take part in Facim, with a total of 27 countries represented.
According to government spokesman Inocêncio Impissa, the 60th edition of the fair, at the Ricatla site in the Marracuene district of Maputo province, is expected to welcome around 70,000 visitors. The organisation has already named Gaza province and neighbouring South Africa as exhibitors of honour at the 2025 event.
As well as exhibitions and other business-related activities, the event will also host a business forum with South Africa, it added.
There will also be an exhibition of military and police equipment, aimed at "showing that they shouldn't be afraid of the service", but rather see an opportunity in the civic sector, as Sérgio Macuácua, director of Facim, said earlier.
