Lusa - Business News - Angola: Government signs 44 agreements with UAE wurth $6.5B

Luanda, Aug. 25, 2025 (Lusa) - Angola and the United Arab Emirates signed 44 legal instruments in Luanda on Monday, in various areas such as renewable energies, which will mean the injection of $6.5 billion (€5.5 billion) into the Angolan economy.

According to João Lourenço, who was speaking as part of the first state visit to Angola by his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Nahyan, the relationship between the two countries will from today on have more formal and institutional support, with the 44 legal instruments that will be signed between the two governments during this visit.

João Lourenço highlighted the "long-standing" relationship of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, "based on contacts at the most varied levels" established "with many appreciable results", stressing that this visit of "irrefutable historical importance" now reflects "in a much more intense and visible way" the relations of friendship, cooperation and solidarity that link the two countries.

The Angolan head of state highlighted the "appreciable presence" of companies from the United Arab Emirates in Angola, which, due to their recognised skills, have made an outstanding contribution to the diversification and development of the Angolan economy.

The President of Angola emphasised that the agreements to be signed will create a more comprehensive framework for exchange between the two countries, at institutional, commercial, political and cultural level, more likely to foster synergies in the areas of renewable energies, port and airport logistics, the mining sector, agriculture and agribusiness, all of which represents a total injection of capital in the order of $6.5 billion into the Angolan economy.

'This perspective is not restricted to Angola alone, as your country has emerged as one of the most important foreign investors in Africa, occupying a prominent place as a partner for development, with a volume of financial engagement of more than $100 billion (€84.8 billion) from 2019 to the present day,' he emphasised.

João Lourenço also said that Angola intends to intensify the relationship of cooperation with the Arab country, to attract business investment to the Angolan economy, stressing that the deepening of this partnership is aimed at mutual gain.

"At the centre of our concerns is resolving the problems arising from the poverty that still affects considerable segments of Angolan society," said João Lourenço.

According to the Angolan President, "it is always in search of urgent and lasting answers to these issues" that he has been "incessantly" in contact with Angola's international cooperation partners, to absorb experiences, knowledge and resources for their application and the achievement of good results.
