Lisbon, Aug. 25, 2025 (Lusa) - The Portuguese stock market fell by 0.65% to 7,927.98 points on Monday morning, following the trend of its European counterparts, with EDP Renováveis leading the way down, falling 3.55%.
At 9:40 a.m., of the 15 companies listed on the main index, 10 were showing modest declines, two were unchanged (NOS and Semapa, at €3.96 and €18.08, respectively), and only three were in positive territory.
EDP Renováveis shares led the way, advancing 3.55% to €10.32, followed by those of its parent company EDP, which rose 1.39% to €3.83.
Showing smaller declines of less than 1% were REN (-0.83% to €2.99), Sonae (-0.61% to €1.31), Altri (-0.58% to €5.18), Mota-Engil (-0.39% to €5.17) and Corticeira Amorim (-0.38% to €7.80).
Jerónimo Martins dropped 0.38% to €20.82, Galp Energia fell 0.30% to €16.40, and CTT slipped 0.13% to €7.81.
Going against the trend were BCP, Ibersol and Navigator, with gains of 1.09%, 0.41% and 0.18%, respectively, to €0.78, €9.82 and €3.42.
The Lisbon stock exchange opened today’s session down 0.59% to 7,932.89 points, after ending lower on Friday, with the PSI benchmark index falling 0.50% to 7,980.23 points, after closing above 8,000 points for the first time since April 2011 (at 8,020.36 points) the previous day (Thursday).
Most European stock markets recorded a moderate decline after opening, with losses of around 0.5%, with London and Milan being the exceptions.
At around 9:05 a.m. in Lisbon, the EuroStoxx 600 lost 0.26% to 559.86 points. The London and Milan stock exchanges were the only ones up, by 0.13% and 0.06%, the former reaching historic highs above 9,300 points.
Frankfurt fell 0.46%, Paris 0.54% and Madrid 0.34%, taking profits after Wall Street reached historic highs on Friday.
Investors will be watching today for the publication of the German business confidence index for August (Ifo index).
The euro was down around 0.08% to $1.171, while Brent crude oil was trading at $67.82, up 0.13%.
The interest rate on long-term German debt rose to 2.755%.
The price of a troy ounce of gold fell by 0.13% to $3,368, while bitcoin dipped by 0.82% to $111,865.
