Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Algarve launches single-price bus pass

Faro, Portugal, Aug. 22, 2025 (Lusa) - Users of road passenger transport in the Algarve will be able to travel from September on all routes in the VAMUS network with a single ticket, the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) announced on Friday.

The “Algarve Pass”, with a monthly cost of €40, will be valid for all interurban lines and routes, regardless of the distance travelled or the number of transfers, with only the “AeroBus” service being excluded, AMAL said in a statement.

The creation of the pass was approved this month by the Intermunicipal Council of AMAL, the organisation that brings together the region's 16 municipalities.

The measure comes as part of the funding provided by the Incentiva +TP programme, aimed at promoting and encouraging public passenger transport.

According to AMAL, the new ticket "does not replace the existing passes with lower prices", which will remain unchanged so as not to harm those who only need to make shorter journeys.

"The free passes already in force for all young people will also be maintained," it emphasises.

With this initiative, the regional authorities want to facilitate mobility, offer an economical and comfortable alternative to individual transport and encourage the use of public transport.

AMAL expects the purchase of the "Algarve Pass" to take place from Tuesday, the note reads.

AMAL created the name VAMUS to name the Sustainable Urban Mobility project that took place in 2017.

In 2021, the name will be used for the new public passenger road transport service network in the Algarve region.
