ZAGREB, 18 May (Hina) - Museums across Croatia and around the world will mark International Museum Day on 18 May under the theme “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, highlighting the role of museums in promoting a more sustainable future and bridging cultural, social and geopolitical divides.

The event is coordinated by the Museum Documentation Centre (MDC), which has been marking the day in Croatia since 1980. The theme was set by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Paris, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

ICOM called on museums and heritage institutions to promote unity, dialogue and peace through various programmes, at a time of growing global challenges, including weakening respect for international law, rising inequality between states, censorship, and financial pressures on cultural institutions linked to conflicts.
