Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Government, Volkswagen ink accord on new ID.EVERY1 vehicle

Lisbon, Aug. 19, 2025 (Lusa) - The government of Portugal and Volkswagen signed an agreement on Tuesday for the production of the new ID.EVERY1 electric car at Autoeuropa in Palmela, Setúbal district, stating that it represents the group’s confidence in the country.

“The new T-ROC and the commitment to the ID.EVERY1 symbolise much more than just two new models, they represent the Volkswagen Group’s confidence in Portugal, they also represent the support and strategic vision of the Portuguese government and, above all, they represent the remarkable work that this team here [in Palmela] has done,” said Thomas Engel Gunther, managing director and chairman of the management board of Volkswagen Autoeuropa, at the signing ceremony for the joint declaration of intent between the Volkswagen Group and the government at the Volkswagen Autoeuropa facilities.

The ceremony, preceded by a visit to the new XL press and the construction site of the factory’s new paint shop, was attended by the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, the Deputy Secretary of State for Labour, Adriano Rafael Moreira, the Mayor of Palmela, Álvaro Amaro, and executive representatives from the Volkswagen Group.

The new electric vehicle, with an estimated price starting at €20,000, announced in March, is part of Volkswagen’s “ambitious plan to introduce new models by 2027,” the company said at the time.

The Volkswagen car factory in Palmela, the government and the workers applauded the decision to produce the new low-cost electric vehicle in Portugal, describing it as a “historic decision, decisive for the future of the factory and its workers”.

According to Autoeuropa, the ID.EVERY1, which Autoeuropa expects to produce from mid-2027, uses a new-generation 70 kilowatt (95 horsepower) electric motor and offers room for four people, a 305-litre boot and will be the first model in the entire group to integrate a new software architecture that allows it to be equipped with new features throughout its life cycle.

Even before the production of the new ID.EVERY1 begins, the Palmela factory, which employs more than 4,000 workers, is expected to start producing the T-ROC NF hybrid vehicle.
