Lisbon, Aug. 14, 2025 (Lusa) — The Portuguese Metalworking and Related Industries Union (SIMA) has withdrawn its strike notice at Lisbon airport ground handling company Menzies (formerly Groundforce) after reaching an agreement with the company's management at the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.
In a letter sent on Wednesday to the company, to which Lusa had access, SIMA states that following the agreement, its members "will not go on strike".
"The strike notice in question is hereby cancelled, given the agreement reached between the SIMA Trade Union Committee and the company's representatives at the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security with the representatives of the Ministry," the document reads.
The cancellation comes after strikes held from 25 to 28 July and from 8 to 11 August to demand an end to base salaries below the minimum wage, better wages and compliance with the payment of night hours, among other demands.
The strikes scheduled for 15 to 18 August, 22 to 25 August and 29 August to 1 September are therefore cancelled.
