Lisbon, July 24, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading higher on Thursday morning, with BCP shares leading the gains and rising 1.78% to €0.69.
At around 9:30 a.m. in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was holding on to its opening trend and rising 0.14% to 7,728.45 points, with seven stocks rising, six falling and two remaining unchanged (Ibersol at €9.66 and Jerónimo Martins at €21.88).
BCP shares were followed by Mota-Engil, Altri and Navigator, which were recording gains of 0.43% to €4.22, 0.31% to €4.87 and 0.19% to €3.25.
Sonae, NOS and Semapa shares were also on the rise, 0.16% to €1.25, 0.14% to €3.59 and 0.11% to €17.54.
Going the other way, CTT, EDP Renováveis and REN shares were falling 0.93% to €7.49, 0.68% to €10.25 and 0.47% to €3.16.
EDP and Corticeira Amorim shares were both down 0.13% to €3.77 and €7.68, while Galp shares were off 0.06% to €16.77.
The main European stock markets opened higher today, optimistic about a possible EU-US trade agreement and the ECB meeting, which will almost certainly keep interest rates unchanged, and awaiting more first-half corporate results.
The European Central Bank (ECB) is expected to keep its base interest rate at 2%, after managing to keep inflation in the eurozone at its 2% target.
Meanwhile, China and the EU (European Union) are holding a bilateral summit to commemorate five decades of diplomatic relations, against a backdrop of trade friction over issues such as Chinese electric vehicles, on which the EU imposed tariffs last year.
Wall Street futures were mixed, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.34% and the Nasdaq gaining 0.21%, after Wall Street closed higher, with the main indices rising to record highs.
Brent crude oil, the European benchmark, for September delivery is trading at US$68.97, up from US$68.51 on Wednesday.
Gold per troy ounce, a safe-haven asset, was falling to US$3,375.56, compared with US$3,387.42 on Wednesday and the current all-time high of US$3,432.34 on 13 June.
The euro was stronger, rising to US$1.1766 on the Frankfurt currency market, compared to US$1.1751 on Wednesday and a new high since 15 September 2021 of US$1.1789 on 2 July.
