Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes red led down by pulp, paper sector

Lisbon, July 18, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed lower on Friday, on a day when Corticeira Amorim and companies listed in the pulp and paper sector led the losses and BCP avoided more significant falls.

Of the 15 companies listed on the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index), three closed higher, Sonae SGPS closed unchanged and the remaining 11 in the red.

The national benchmark index fell 0.28% to 7,674.13 points.

Leading the losses was Corticeira Amorim, whose shares fell 2.57% to €7.57, followed by two companies linked to the pulp and paper sector.

Navigator fell 1.71% to €3.22, while Altri fell 1.64% to €4.81. Ibersol also suffered losses of over 1%, falling 1.42% to €9.72.

Among the PSI heavyweights, EDP fell 1.21% to €3.75, while subsidiary EDP Renováveis fell 0.69% to €10.01.

The oil company Galp fell 0.06% to €15.85, while retailer Jerónimo Martins fell 0.09% to €22.26.

Going against the trend and avoiding more significant losses in the PSI was BCP, whose shares rose 1.36% to 67 cents per share.

Across Europe, the British FTSE 100 rose 0.22%, the French CAC-40 gained 0.01%, while the German DAX lost 0.33% and the Spanish IBEX-35 fell 0.04%.
