Lusa - Business News - Angola: Sodiam to auction 17 special diamonds, with an average of over 10 carats

Luanda, June 20, 2025 (Lusa) - Sodiam, Angola’s state-owned diamond marketing company, announced on Friday that it will hold an electronic auction for 17 special stones, averaging 10.80 carats, the company said.

In a statement, the National Diamond Trading Company of Angola (Sodiam) said that viewing sessions will take place from 23 to 26 June at the company’s headquarters in Luanda, and Sodiam will conduct the bidding process exclusively online and close it on 27 June at 10:00 a.m. local time.

The auction targets customers registered in Sodiam’s database with expertise in marketing special stones, and the lots will include 11 stones from the Luele mine, three from Lulo production, two from the Chitotolo mine and one from Kaixepa production.

This is the fourteenth rough diamond auction organised by Sodiam since 2019, and Sodiam held the last one in March 2025.

In 2024, Sodiam exported around 10.2 million carats of rough diamonds, worth a total of around $1.48 billion (€1.3 billion), corresponding to an average price of $145 (€129.8) per carat, positioning Angola as the world’s third largest producer of rough diamonds in terms of value.

Sodiam was founded in 1999 and the production marketed through this state-owned company originates from 27 kimberlite and alluvial deposits and covers the entire spectrum of qualities in terms of size, shape, purity and colour.
