Luanda, June 18, 2025 (Lusa) - Angola and Boeing have signed an agreement for TAAG, the Angolan airline, to accelerate the modernisation and competitiveness of the national aviation industry, the Ministry of Transport announced on Wednesday.
The Angolan Ministry of Transport's statement said that the parties signed the strategic cooperation memorandum during the Paris Air Show.
The document establishes a framework for collaboration between Boeing and TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola, defining strategic areas such as initiatives to increase operational efficiency through digital transformation, strengthen technical and maintenance capabilities, optimise and expand route networks and markets, and support the modernisation and growth of the national fleet.
"This cooperation is also in line with the ministry's commitment to promoting training and innovation in the air transport sector in Angola, while ensuring solid international partnerships that benefit the country's long-term development objectives," it said.
According to Angola's transport minister, Ricardo de Abreu, TAAG “has been a cornerstone of African aviation since its foundation in 1938”.
"As we navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing global market, it is essential that the company maintains its competitive advantage and embraces innovation and modernisation," said Ricardo de Abreu in the statement.
For the minister, the partnership with Boeing represents a significant step in Angola's commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities, improving technical and maintenance capacity, and expanding its reach.
"By investing in modern technologies and practices, we intend to position TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola as a leading airline in Africa, capable of meeting the demands of today's travellers while contributing to Angola's economic diversification and growth," the minister stressed.
He also said that, in conjunction with significant investment in the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto international airport, the Angolan government is laying the foundations for a “prosperous and sustainable” future for the national aviation sector.
For Brad McMullen, senior vice president of Commercial Aviation Sales and Marketing at Boeing, the partnership reaffirms Boeing's commitment to supporting the growth of the national sector and the continued expansion of TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola's capabilities.
“We look forward to continuing more than 75 years of support for commercial aviation in Africa,” said Brad McMullen.
Currently, Boeing aircraft account for approximately 70% of the African commercial fleet, with more than 60 airlines operating them. According to Boeing Commercial Market Outlook forecasts, Africa will need more than 1,000 new aircraft over the next two decades to meet growing demand.
