TAP - Tunisia joins international community in observing World Intellectual Property Day

Tunis, April 27 (TAP) - This week, Tunisia, along with the rest of the international community, is observing the World Intellectual Property Day, on April 26 each year, under the slogan "IP and Music: Feel the Rhythm of IP."

The observance of this day launched in 2000, is an opportunity to highlight the importance of protecting the rights of creators throughout the world, the Tunisian Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Organisation (OTDAV) said in a press release on Sunday.

World Intellectual Property Day 2025 highlights how creativity and innovation, backed by IP rights, keep a thriving music scene that benefits everyone, everywhere.

This year’s World IP Day invites us to explore how IP rights and innovation policies empower creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs to bring fresh ideas to the music industry, safeguarding the work of songwriters, composers, performers, and all those who shape the music that moves people.

On World IP Day, April 26, the world celebrates the contributions of creators, inventors, and entrepreneurs who are pushing the boundaries of innovation and creativity to make music that brings people together, evokes powerful emotions, drives change, and inspires a more innovative future.

Music permeates every sector, and IP fosters the presence of music beyond its own realm. From film, entertainment, and technology, to fashion, video games, and consumer goods, IP rights empower cross-industry connections with music, enabling creative synergies and innovation across sectors that fuel economic growth. Even when it's not on minds, the beat and rhythm of music and IP are always present in the poeple's lives.

The development of digital platforms today has opened up new opportunities for young artists and musicians, enabling them to share their work with the public more quickly and more effectively, amid the numerous challenges posed by copyright infringement and illegal exploitation on these platforms.

OTDAV stated in its press release that intellectual property rights are a legal weapon to protect music and creators, offering important legal tools to protect musical works from unauthorised use and to encourage investment in the creation, production and distribution of content protected by literary and artistic property rights.
