Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Almost 30 startups to attend 3rd edition of Web Summit Rio

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 24, 2025 (Lusa) - The Web Summit Rio, which takes place between 27 and 30 April in Rio de Janeiro, will feature 28 Portuguese startups focusing on artificial intelligence, human resources and sports & fitness solutions.

The third edition of one of the world's biggest technology events in the "marvellous city" "will be attended by a Portuguese delegation of 28 startups supported by Startup Portugal and Unicorn Factory Lisboa, 11 of which are taking part in the conference as part of the Business Abroad initiative," the organisation said in a statement on Thursday.

Web Summit sources told Lusa at the time that in the two previous editions, the Portuguese delegation was always the second largest foreign delegation behind the United States.

The organisers stressed this year, "the Portuguese delegation is bringing to South America the diversity and talent that characterise Portugal's innovation ecosystem".

The 11 startups taking part in the technology summit as part of the Business Abroad initiative employ around 200 people and "have already raised more than seven million euros in investment from venture capital and business angels", the same press release reads.

Hours before the event's first day, on Sunday, the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rio de Janeiro, in collaboration with Startup Portugal, Lisboa Unicorn Capital, and with the support of the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP), will mediate a meeting with the aim of " creating connections between Portuguese startups and founders, investors and reference players in the Brazilian startup ecosystem."
