Lisbon, March 10, 2025 (Lusa) - Portugal's communications regulator, the National Communications Authority (Anacom), last year concluded 266 administrative offence proceedings, imposing fines in 234 of them corresponding to total of €6.5 million, the entity announced on Monday.
Among the 234 convictions, Anacom highlights one against Meo, the country's largest telecoms provider, "for non-compliance with rules on subscriber contracts, in which a single fine of 1.4 million euros was imposed."
In another case, involving its rival NOS, Anacome ruled that there was "non-compliance with rules on contracts with subscribers, for which a one-off fine of 858,000 euros was imposed, and for non-compliance with rules on the suspension of electronic communications services, for which a one-off fine of 744,000 euros was imposed," reads the statement.
The regulator also highlights the decision against CTT, the privatised postal service, "for violations of obligations relating to the universal postal service and obligations relating to the distribution of postal items, in which fines of 830,000 euros and 399,000 euros were imposed" as well as another against NOS Madeira, "for non-compliance with rules relating to contracts with subscribers, in which a single fine of 363,000 euros was imposed" and one on Vodafone, "for non-compliance with rules relating to the barring of services, in which a single fine of 250,000 euros and an injunction were imposed."
