A12th-century fortified residence of more than 2,400 square meters that is set within a 50-hectare estate and is one kilometre from the sea at Torre Guaceto, in Puglia, is now being brought onto market by Lionard Luxury Real Estate (https://www.lionard.com/12th-century-fortified-farmhouse-tower- near-brindisi.html).

    This 'masseria' estate, which is expandable to approximately 100 hectares, is among the largest and rarest historic residences currently up for sale in the region.

It is also one of the oldest surviving examples of a fortified masseria in Puglia.
    Its origins date back to the Middle Ages: in 1107, the Norman duchess Sichelgaita donated the estate to the Monastery of the Benedictine Nuns of Brindisi, which retained ownership for nearly five centuries.
    It later passed to Princess Eleonora Caraccioli and subsequently to the Dentice di Frasso family.
    Originally from Amalfi, the noble dynasty governed the territory for centuries from the castles of Carovigno and San Vito dei Normanni, welcoming into its residences, among others, King Victor Emmanuel III and Queen Elena, as well as members of the Italian and international nobility.
    The historic residence's more than 2,400 square meters are distributed across the main building, with its white-stone façade; a courtyard with rounded arches; a crenellated Renaissance tower whose rooftop terrace overlooks the Adriatic Sea and the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve; a dépendance; and a small deconsecrated church with a bell gable.
    The 50-hectare estate, with the possibility of acquiring an additional 50 hectares, offers exceptional privacy as well as a special relationship with the surrounding countryside.
    The scale of the complex, the possibility of expanding the estate, and its accessibility - Brindisi Airport is just a few minutes away - make it "a concrete potential for a high-end hospitality project," Lionard explains.
    "Its arrival on the market opens the possibility of imagining a hospitality-led enhancement capable of respecting the historic character of the architecture, the privacy of the property, and the delicate balance of the coastal landscape".
