Lisbon, Jan. 21, 2025 (Lusa) - Portugal's flag carrier TAP carried 16.1 million passengers in 2024, 1.6% more than in the previous year, with growth of 8.9% on routes to the USA and Canada, the carrier announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, the company said that the biggest percentage growth in the number of passengers carried was on the North American routes (USA and Canada), which reached a total of 1.59 million passengers, 8.9% more than the previous year.
According to TAP Air Portugal, the Brazilian routes were also "a major highlight": In 2024, it carried a total of more than two million passengers between Brazil and Europe, an increase of 7.1% compared to 2023 and "a new historic record" for the company.
On the other hand, the African routes saw a slight reduction of 0.1%, with TAP carrying a total of 1.1 million passengers between Africa and Europe.
Between Madeira and the mainland, 983,000 passengers travelled on TAP in 2024, an increase of 3.3% compared to 2023, while on the Azores routes the company carried a total of 527,000 passengers, an increase of 1.3%.
Overall, excluding Portugal, the routes to Europe saw an increase of 0.9%, with a total of 8.8 million passengers carried.
TAP's balance sheet today also points to a load factor of 82.3 % last year, 1.5 percentage points more than in 2023, and the supply of seats measured in ASK (total number of seats available for sale multiplied by the number of kilometres flown) grew by 1.6% compared to the previous year.
Revenue per seat/kilometre, measured in RPK (total number of passengers multiplied by kilometres flown), increased by 3.4%.
