Anadolu photojournalist Mustafa Hassouna won the Special Jury Mention at the World Press Photo competition with his photo titled Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza, the contest announced on Wednesday.
The photo shows a Palestinian woman surrounded by piles of rubble and devastation, the result of Israel's relentless offensive on the Gaza Strip since last October.
The award is the second prize Anadolu has received so far in the competition, which bills itself as the world's leading news photography contest.
In 2019, Anadolu photojournalist Elif Ozturk came third in the Sports Stories category in the same competition with her Kirkpinar Oil Wrestling Festival series. Kirkpinar is a Turkish oil wrestling tournament held annually since the 14th century in Edirne, northwestern Turkiye.
The World Press Photo contest is organized by the Dutch Photojournalists Foundation with the support of the Dutch Royal Family.
The awarded photos were selected from over 61,000 entries by 3,851 photographers from 130 countries.
