Lisbon, Sept. 29, 2026 (Lusa) - Portugal's president has signed into law the government's decree providing an extraordinary pension supplement of up to €1,611.39, according to a statement published on the Presidency's website.

The supplement will be paid in December, together with that month's pension. The supplement will be €200 for pensions up to €537.13, €150 for pensions between €537.13 and €1,074.26, and €100 for pensions between €1,074.26 and €1,611.39, as announced by the government.

The allocation of this supplement follows a similar model to that used in 2025 and 2024, when the support was allocated per pensioner rather than per pension; consequently, those receiving multiple pensions had these amounts added together to determine eligibility.

According to a statement published on the government's website, and as in previous years, the support «will not be taken into account for the purposes of the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly» (CSI) and covers «more than two million pensioners».

The government estimates it will spend €400 million on the measure, with the prime minister justifying its introduction as a way to boost pensioners' purchasing power amid rising living costs.
