Lisbon, Sept. 22, 2026 (Lusa) - Alstom and Talgo have been selected to submit bids to supply high-speed trains to Comboios de Portugal (CP) in a tender with a base value of €504 million, the Portuguese company announced Tuesday.

«After analysing the two applications submitted, the selection panel has approved the admission to the tender of the candidate companies, Alstom (ALSTOM Ferroviária Portugal, S.A. and ALSTOM Ferroviaria S.p.A.) and Patentes Talgo, S.L.», according to the CP press release.

The contract covers the purchase of 12 high-speed multiple units, associated spare parts and specialised tools, as well as an option to acquire eight additional multiple units.

CP states that the tender, with a base price of €504 million, also includes a comprehensive maintenance service, to be carried out by the successful bidder over the two years following delivery of the first train.

The next stages are tender submission and evaluation, followed by the award decision. The tender schedule provides for the contract to be signed in the first quarter of 2027, with the first train due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2031.

«This tender is an important step towards making CP's entry into high-speed rail a reality. With these crucial investments, we are preparing the company to meet the mobility needs of the coming decades, with a more modern and efficient service capable of bringing people and regions closer together,» said Pedro Moreira, Chair of CP's Board of Directors, as quoted in the press release.
