Lisbon, Sept. 9, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading higher on Wednesday morning, with Galp and EDP leading the gains, rising by 1.42% to €21.39 and 1.20% to €4.80, respectively.
At around 9:35 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI was up 0.25% to 9,504.77 points, with seven companies rising, eight falling, and one unchanged (Sonae at €2.02).
Galp and EDP shares were followed by EDP Renováveis, Semapa and Navigator, which rose by 0.91% to €13.31, 0.72% to €2.09 and 0.68% to €3.25 respectively.
REN and Altri gained 0.57% to €3.52 and 0.32% to €4.70, respectively.
Meanwhile, Jerónimo Martins, BCP and NOS recorded more modest gains of 1.03% to €18.23, 0.73% to €1.16 and 0.65% to €4.91 respectively.
Following the same trend, Ibersol, Mota-Engil and Corticeira Amorim fell by 0.59% to €10.08, 0.30% to €5.06 and 0.14% to €6.97, respectively.
The other two shares that fell were Teixeira Duarte (-0.10% to €0.49) and CTT (-0.08% to €6.41).
In Europe, the main stock exchanges opened lower today after oil prices rose again after Tehran and Washington disrupted shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz with attacks on oil tankers.
The euro was up against the dollar, gaining 0.16% and trading at $1.1643 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.
The markets are once again responding to the latest developments in the Middle East.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated today that its forces had attacked two US ships, the US base in Jordan, eight oil tankers and a dozen boats in the Strait of Hormuz in response to US attacks on five Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf.
This has led to further rises in oil prices. The price of the benchmark Brent crude oil contract in Europe rose 1.94% to $99.82.
Today, the markets are keeping a close eye on the start of the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy meeting in Berlin, at which a decision is expected on Thursday to raise key interest rates by a quarter of a point to 2.50%.
For the same reason, ECB President Christine Lagarde and Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel will each deliver a speech at the German central bank's official dinner.
Stock market futures on Wall Street show a 0.05% drop for the Dow Jones and a 0.18% gain for the technology-heavy Nasdaq, after both closed lower the previous day.
