Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market trading higher on Tuesday morning, led by EDP

Lisbon, Sept. 1, 2026 (Lusa) - Portugal's benchmark stock market index, the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index), maintained its opening trend on Tuesday and remained in positive territory, with EDP up 1.86%.

At around 9.50 am in Lisbon, the PSI was up 0.47% at 9,481.76 points, with 11 shares rising, four falling and Ibersol holding steady at €10.30.

The gains were led by EDP, which rose by 1.86% to reach €4.77, joining Sonae (up 1.50% to €2.03) and EDP Renewables (up 1.46% to €13.86) to form the group of three listed companies with gains of over 1%.

Close behind these three were Galp (up 0.98% to €21.61) and Teixeira Duarte (up 0.95% to €0.48).

Jerónimo Martins rose by 0.78% to €18.14, Corticeira Amorim rose by 0.71% to €7.07 and Navigator by 0.68% to €3.27.

Also in the black were Mota-Engil (up 0.51% to €4.77), Altri (up 0.32% to €4.70) and REN (up 0.14% to €3.51).

Conversely, Semapa was the biggest loser, falling 1.42% to €20.90.

NOS (-0.99% to €4.98), BCP (-0.18% to €1.12) and CTT (-0.08% to €6.55) also recorded losses.

The main European stock markets began September today with a predominantly negative trend.

In the first trading session of September – typically the weakest month of the year – investors are keeping a close eye on US employment figures, eurozone inflation and PMI manufacturing data.

Furthermore, they will continue to monitor the Middle East, where tensions between Iran and the United States are keeping oil prices high.

The euro was trading at $1.1603, whilst bitcoin fell by 0.15% to $78,743.9.

Meanwhile, the price of gold rose by 0.11% to $4,432.28 per ounce, and silver rose by 0.07% to $66.67.
